Software developed by the MEFISTO Consortium

From the beginnings of the 90's the people of the MEFISTO Consortium develop different Software products. In this section you can find their last developments.

All products are free of use, and are protected against any assay of their privatisation. We expected that you cited the authors if you use their production. Also is recommended to send the outcomes obtained in the use of the programs to the Consortium. All production with some quality, is published in this page. All comments and suggestions are used to improve the quality of the programs or to adapt them to the new conditions or regulations.

1. MECON, (Model Economic), a model made for educational purposes. MECON is very simple to use and interpreted their outcomes. This model not need real data and allows understand the dynamic relations in a exploitation of a renewable natural resource, under different economic and biological conditions.

2. VIT (Vitual Population Analysis and Yield per Recruit) allows generate a virtual fish population from some observations on size distribution of each specie from the development of biological samples over the landings. The main objective of the VIT program is to study the dynamics of a single species' population subject to exploitation. This study is conducted by means of pseudo-cohort analysis on frequency data and ancillary parameters. More particularly, VIT helps study variations in the exploitation rate, the interaction among fishing gears and the reaction of the population to changes in the exploitation pattern. The models underlying the VIT program are Virtual  models. They requires some information on parameters of each specie analysed and samples on size of the catches on the landings.

3. MEFISTO a complex simulation model that allows to generate previsions under some hypothesis on economic, biological and administrative conditions. This model requires the collection of economic data (from enquiries) and biological information
